"When they put these numbers into our skin, they sealed our promise. Somehow, they gave us the strength to fight for our lives."
Synopsis in two sentences:
Three sisters make a promise to always be there for each other no matter what. They survive life in a concentration camp and together they move through their grief after the war ends.
My Thoughts:
This is a beautiful story about survival, love, sisterly bonds and resiliency. The characters were survivors that were brave and strong. I enjoyed that the story was not only based on three sisters who lived though Auschwitz/Birkenau but tells the tale of what life was like after the traumatic experience the women went though. I loved that it touched on the guilt they felt for surviving which was likely felt by many Holocaust survivors. The story contained notes at the end from the children and grandchildren of these three amazing women. This book is such a beautiful tribute to these women and all stories like theirs. Highly recommend.
