The Violin Conspiracy Review

The Violin Conspiracy Review

Title: The Violin Conspiracy
Author: Brendan Slocumb
Style: Mystery
Rating: 5/5

Ray McMillian wants to be a professional violinist and he inherits a violin from his grandmother. The violin has been in the family for generations and he finds out it is worth millions. He qualifies to compete in the international Tchaikovsky Competition which is the Olympics of classical music. Shortly before the competition is prized possession is stolen.  Among the suspects are his family and the descendants of the family who enslaved his great great grandfather.  They all claim the violin belongs to them. Will he ever see his violin again and will he be able to compete in the competition without his heirloom?

This is going to be one of my favorite reads of 2022.  I was captivated from beginning to end.  There is so much to this story than a missing violin. It's a multilayered story that has many great components; historical fiction (Ray's descents were enslaved),  greedy family drama, racism that Ray experiences as one of the few black violinists and not giving up on your dreams no matter what. I loved Ray's character so much and loved Brendan Slocumb's writing style. I look forward to more novels. Highly recommend this one.
