What is this book about?
Nina’s world is turned upside down after she receives word that her husband Glen is missing. The only clues are a pool of blood on his fishing boat. To make matters worse she discovers he had been having an affair and had been hiding other things from her. After almost 2 years Glen is no where to be found. Assuming he has died Nina moves on. She meets a man named Simon, who is also a widower. Simon seems really perfect. He knows all her favorite things, her son loves him and he was there for her when she needed him. Nina tries to put her life back together with her new future husband but her friends don’t like him and neither does her daughter. Then unlocks some secrets. Is she making the right choice with Simon or is he hiding something? Is Glen dead or did he run off and start his life over?
What did I think?
I want to start by saying that I thought the plot was good. Its a storyline that I don’t see often. It was clever but also a slow build. The character development was ok. Not awesome but not terrible either. The plot twist was decent. I enjoyed the ending. I originally had rated this a 3 when I finished, but after sitting on it for a bit, I keep going between 3 and 4. What’s pulling me from a 3 to a 4, is that I feel like this book does a pretty great job of how subtle emotional abuse can be and how easy it can be want to stay with the abuser. I do not want to say much more than that, because I don’t want to spoil this book for those that want to read it. Overall this was a pretty decent thriller. I liked this authors other book, Saving Megan a bit more.
