The Mothers Review

Title: The Mothers
Author: Britt Bennett
Style: Contemporary
Rating: 4/5
When Nadia is 17 she loses her mothers to suicide and she begins to date the Pastors son Luke. After she becomes pregnant she makes a life changing decision that will change the course of her life. She hides the secret from almost everyone, including her best friend Aubrey. The past always catches up and years later Aubrey, Nadia and Luke are caught in a crazy love triangle.
The Vanishing Half was one of my favorite books in 2020, so naturally I knew I had to read The Mothers. I was not disappointed. Bennett is not afraid to write about controversial topics and it's one thing I love about her writing. This story involves a decision that Nadia makes and how it impacts others even years later. The story is beautiful, character driven and compelling. Bennett crafts the stories so that it leaves the reader wanting more. I also love that Bennett isn't afraid to have LGBTQ characters in her stories. Britt Bennett is officially a favorite author of mine.
