The Heart Principle Review

The Heart Principle Review

Title: The Heart Principle
Author: Helen Hoang
Style: Contemporary Romance
Rating: 5/5

“Smiles are real when they reach your eyes.”

Hoang's novels just keep getting better and better in my opinion.  I really didn't think it would be possible to top her previous novels but boy was I wrong. The Heart Principle made me feel every single emotion imaginable. It tore out my soul. I laughed, I cried. I got angry and then I cried some more.  It's not everyday I read a novel that makes me weep profusely.

It tells the story of Anna who's mental health is struggling and things get worse when her boyfriend says he wants to explore his options and start an open relationship.  She decides a one night stand is the answer and tries with a man named Quan and they fail miserably. You can probably guess what happens... I mean it is a romance after all. ;)

When tragedy strikes in Anna's family her whole world feels like it's collapsing. It's a story about self discovery and finding love in the midst of darkness. The characters are authentic, spirited, compassionate, strong willed and relatable.  The story touches on some pretty heavy topics in regards to mental illness and struggles people face everyday. I loved the relationship build between Anna and Quan and how they both supported each other through their difficulties. It also had just the right amount of steam for me. All in all, this is a MUST READ.  I can not praise this novel enough!
