The Babysitter Review

The Babysitter Review

Title: The Babysitter: My Summers with a Serial Killer
Author: Liza Rodman and Jennifer Jordan
Style: True Crime, Memoir
Rating: 3.5/5

This is a perfect blend of True Crime meets Memoir. Liza tells the story of her summers spent with Tony Costa who would sometimes babysit her and her sister. When Liza is an adult she finds out that Tony turned out to be a serial killer.

The chapters alternate from being written about Liza growing up feeling unwanted and unloved. She find comfort in Tony, someone who works with her mom.  He seems kind and charming.  As she spends time with him she has no idea about the evil that lurks inside of him. The other chapters are told from Tony's perspective which was researched well. Tony's sections start as a child through his court convictions.

I craved and wanted more sections about Tony Costa but I appreciate the research that was done to bring this book and story to life. I also appreciated the growth that Liza went through.  I feel as if this book was probably a way for her to process what had happened to her.
