Survive the Night Review
Title: Survive the Night
Author: Riley Sager
Style: Thriller
Rating: 3/5
“Meeting people is easy. Keeping them around is the hard part.”
It's the early 1990's and Charlie decides to leave her college campus after her roommate is murdered by a serial killer named The Campus Killer. She visits the ride share board and find a man named Josh going near the place she's going. As they make their way Charlie starts to think that maybe Josh is the one who killed her friend. It's a time before cell phones where one of the only ways to make a phone call is through a payphone. It begins to turn into a cat-mouse chase and in order to win, Charlie just needs to Survive the Night.
I am not exactly sure what to say about this. I found the book to be fast paced and thrilling for the most part. If you can ignore the glaring plot holes then this will probably be a pretty enjoyable read. While I know that ride sharing was common in the 90's I can't think of any reason why someone would get into a car with a stranger when there is a serial killer on the lose. I digress. This is a pretty fast read and had some moments that gets the heart rate up. The story is very predictable though. I pretty much knew who the killer was from the beginning of the story because Sager seems to always follow the same patterns in his books. I guess that overall I enjoyed it but I think from now on I'll just wait for the library to get a copy.
