***TRIGGER WARNING***
This book contains graphic sexual violence of a minor by a trusted adult.
I am going to switch up the layout of how I’ve been reviewing books for this novel. I want to start by saying this book is not for everyone. If you can not stomach the abuse of a teenage child then I would recommend steering clear of this book. This book is HEAVY. This has book left me feeling emotionally drained.
I have started and restarted this review many many times. I finished this book few days ago and I am finding it difficult to articulate exactly how I feel. I think this book is extremely well written. I think it clearly shows how an abuser can groom, brainwash and manipulate it’s victim. I think it clearly articulates the hold the abuser has on his/her victim and the trauma the victim experiences. The author also was able to describe a victim suffering from PTSD as a result of his/her trauma. Not only that, it also shows how society can fail a victim suffering from this type of abuse. I found myself crying for Vanessa. This story is raw and emotional.
I want to say again. That this book is HEAVY. I found this book difficult to read. That being said, I rated this book high because I feel like the author has done a profound job of writing about such a difficult topic.
