In Every Mirror She's Black Review

In Every Mirror She's Black Review

Title: In Every Mirror She's Black
Author: Lola Akinmade Akerstrom
Style: Contemporary
Rating: 5/5

This is a story about three black women who relocate to Sweden and how they navigate their life in a place where very few people look like them.

If you are a fan of contemporary fiction then this story is for you.  There is not a lot of action in this story but I still loved it. The author weaves these strong, unique characters into something beautiful while also covering some pretty tough topics like racism, mental heath, suicide, classism, micro/macroaggression, sexism and more. It's told in multiple points of view with each character having their own voice.  So many times in POV novels it can be hard to distinguish who is narrating. I found myself routing for these characters, feeling their pain, sadness and joy. I have only one regret and it's that I wish I had read this sooner.  This book has been sitting on my bookshelf since September.   Highly recommend it.
