Dear Martin Review

Title: Dear Martin
Author: Nic Stone
Style: Young Adult
Rating: 5/5

“You can’t change how other people think and act, but you’re in full control of you. When it comes down to it, the only question that matters is this: If nothing in the world ever changes, what type of man are you gonna be?”

Justyce is the top of his class on his way to an Ivy school once he graduates but all that changes when a police officer puts him in handcuffs. Justyce looks to his idol, Martin Luther King Jr for answers. When Justyce goes driving with his friend Manny and altercation happens with an off duty cop and shots are fired. It’s Justyce who comes under attack in the media.

This book almost broke me. What a heartbreaking and realistic story that everyone should read. I feel like this book should be a required read for anyone in high school. There are so many topics that are discussed that are authentic, raw and real. I was able to buddy read this with a few others and we had such great discussions. I can’t do this review the full justice that it deserves so I’ll just say go and read it right now. I can’t wait to read Dear Justyce.
